Dr. Nathan Bryan of the University of Texas at the Houston Biomedical Research Center has determined processed meats, like bacon, that contain nitrates prevent cardio vascular disease.
Even Bon Appetit Magazine is recognizing bacon and its benefits. In this month's issue, it lists 10 superfoods once thought to be bad but now recognized as good for us. NUMBER 1 on the list is bacon because of the fat it contains. Link here to read whole story. The moral of the story is Bacon is a health food.
With all of this tremendously positive news about pork, the Pork on a Fork contest could not be more properly timed. News of the event is spreading from coast to coast, pictures are rolling in and I've been on TV spreading the word about the benefits of the pork industry to the American economy and diet. Click here to watch me on the local ABC affiliate yesterday Nebraska TV. Interestingly, the minute word of the Pork on a Fork contest hit the web, the militant vegans invaded my FaceBook page and spurred unbelievable dialogue. If you ever wondered what it would be like to reason with a brick wall then I would encourage you to become my friend on FaceBook. The most common sentiment I have received in the past five days is "TV watching has never been this entertaining."
Finally, as a man who claims to be gifted with words, I found them really hard to come by when I recently had the great HONOR of visiting with an American Soldier. Instead, I was so humbled and felt so insignificant. It happened Tuesday on Rural Route Radio when Capt. Bret Bellizio joined Kyle Bauer and myself to discuss his year in Iraq. Capt. Bellizio spent most of his time in the rural portions in Iraq. Give it a listen. I'm certain you will find his words and experience as humbling as I did. Most importantly, if you listen to what the United States Soldier is doing for you and I everyday you to will begin wearing a Red Shirt each and every Friday. I am so proud to be an American Free Citizen and thank the men and women of the military for their sacrifices of the last 233 years.
