Many people consider pork as unhealthy because of the high percentage of fat and calories that it contains. In fact, the topic as to whether pork is good or bad has become very controversial over the years. Some people say it is bad because aside from its high-fat content, you can also get some diseases from it such as Swine Influenza (a disease that you can get if you eat the meat of an infected pig).

On the other hand, there are also people who argue that eating pork is not bad as long as you know how to cook the dish in a healthy way. Well, I’m sure many of you will agree to this. And to prove this, the faces of agriculture pork on a fork contest was launched. Pork eaters were encouraged to take pictures of them while eating their favorite pork meal.

How to ensure a healthy pork meal

The food that you eat can significantly affect your physical health, and so, it is essential that you watch what you eat. As much as possible, you have to prepare the meal yourself so you can be sure that, indeed, it is healthy and safe for consumption.

Get the meat from a reputable supplier

First of all, you have to find out where the meat came from. This would be hard to do if you are getting it from the market. Of course, the vendors will tell you what you want to hear even if it is not true. To avoid this, you should always get your pork supply from a reputable supplier. These days, there are many meat shops around. You just have to look for one that values a clean environment as this will give you the assurance that what they are selling you is clean as well.

Go for the lean cuts

Pork has a lot of fat which can increase your cholesterol level. It could even cause hypertension and blockage in your arteries. Therefore, whenever you cook a pork dish at home, make sure that you go for the lean cuts. It is highly recommended that you get rid of the fat as this is where you can get health problems from.

Cook the meat at the right temperature

The temperature in which you cook the pork is crucial if you want to make sure that it is safe to eat. The safe temperature is anywhere between 145 and 160 Fahrenheit. This will ensure that harmful germs and bacteria will be eliminated.
